Become a Sudden Connoisseur of Kabuki

Kabukiza Theater, with its traditional Japanese architectural style, is worth visiting even if you don't plan to watch a Kabuki play. It’ll be a shame to miss the 5th floor of Kabukiza Tower, located just behind the theater, while you’re there.

Become a Sudden Connoisseur of Kabuki

On the 5th floor, you'll find the Kabuki Gallery & Kobikicho Hall, which is currently hosting a special exhibition titled "KABUKI MUSEUM 2025: What is KABUKU?" until February 16th, free of charge. After a walk through the gallery and hall, I believe you'll become a sudden connoisseur of Kabuki. You'll not only see various displays about Kabuki, such as its history, different genres and stories, makeup, wigs, costumes, and more, but you'll also get to touch and feel some props used onstage.

If you plan to watch a Kabuki play, the question remains: should you visit the exhibition before or after the performance? Either way, it promises to enrich your experience.
